West Virginia University Health Science Center is currently accepting applications for a Temporary (part-time) Patient Navigator with the Department of Emergency Medicine

About the Opportunity

The West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Patient Navigator with the School of Medicine. This primary role for this position will be FOCUS study data management and communicating with patients diagnosed with Hepatitis C and/or HIV to link them to their respective care needs.

What you'll do:

  • Serves as an internal linkage to care specialist and attempts to remove any barriers for the patient to access the full scope of services available for care related to HIV, hepatitis C, and other health conditions.
  • Once a positive lab screen is determined, the Patient Navigator works to schedule and relay information between patients and medical office staff.
  • Tracking and maintenance of an accurate log of positive patients, patient appointments, and attendance.
  • Assist in the compilation of screening-level data points in accordance with mandatory program reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual reports.
  • Maintains sensitive, private health information in accordance to HIPAA standards and regulations.
  • Interact regularly with patients and serve as an advocate to link them to their necessary care needs.

  • Track patient appointments and attendance.
  • Educates patients to ensure an understanding of the study intent and procedures.


Length of Assignment: Approximately 5 month

Pay Grade: 15

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor's degree in an allied health discipline or related field preferred
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a medical or clinical setting.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, excel spreadsheets, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Have experience with/prior utilization of electronic medical record systems to facilitate subject identification and data extraction.
  • Ability to read and interpret study protocols, regulatory and study compliance documents.
  • Effective communications skills, both written and verbal.


  • Current EPIC access, as this is required to perform the duties of the position and without current access, it can take multiple weeks to receive approval.
  • CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) training and Good Clinical Practice Training within 15 days of hire.
