Job Description

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Cardiac Muscle Biology. We are interested in PhD, MD, or MD/PhD candidates with at least 2 years of relevant postdoctoral experience whose research interests focus on cardiomyocyte biology including but not limited to the development of novel therapeutic approaches to improve cardiac health and measurements of functional outcomes using pre-clinical animal models. All applicants are encouraged, but preference will be given to individuals who have already been successful in obtaining research funding.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain a research program of exceptional quality and impact, to attract and mentor graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, to attract external funding at the level required to maintain a thriving research group, and to teach in our medical and graduate school programs. The successful applicant will also benefit from participation in our long-standing T32-supported Interdisciplinary Training Program in Muscle Biology ( ) and the department's supportive and collegial environment, which includes access to a wide range of state-of-the-art Core Facilities ( ).
