Position Summary
The Graduate School of Education ( GSE ) at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor or tenure-eligible Associate Professor with critical, mixed methods, and/or quantitative data science and analytic expertise whose research focuses on higher education. The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy is committed to improving evidence-based educational policy and creating educational environments that are fundamentally concerned with access, equity, diversity, and inclusion for marginalized and underserved students. UB's Higher Education program is committed to creating a collegial academic environment that is fundamentally concerned with access, equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout our two-degree programs: 1) Ed.M. in Higher Education and Student Affairs and 2) a Ph.D. in Higher Education.

The persistent inequality in college success is a clear indication that there is a need to address both transitions to college and the college-going experience to develop interventions that lead to more equitable outcomes. Building on our expertise in college access, multicultural competence, social justice and inclusion, and gender (in)equity in higher education, we seek a colleague whose research directly addresses issues of higher education access, equity, and opportunity through interdisciplinary research tools. More specifically, we seek a colleague whose research and teaching engage critical and innovative approaches and methods to address institutional challenges, environmental barriers, and social inequities. Further, our future colleague will explore ways to improve college access and transitions, academic and social/emotional success, learning opportunities, and policy. We will also prioritize candidates who can demonstrate connections between their research, teaching, and service, and the needs of marginalized and underserved populations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct exemplary research, commensurate with Research 1 tenure track faculty appointments, leading to the development of innovative ideas and publications in prominent scholarly outlets.
  • Pursue extramural funding for research initiatives.
  • Teach two courses per semester at the graduate level.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students, including chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees.
  • Support efforts to recruit Ed.M. and Ph.D. students.
  • Fulfill service responsibilities related to program, departmental, and university affiliations.

Appointments are for a ten-month academic year beginning in the Fall of 2025.

For full consideration, please submit your materials by September 8, 2024. The position will remain open until filled.
