As R&D Test Engineer, you will work closely with R&D development teams and plant operations teams to provide testing and validation of instrument transformers, sensors, and cutouts. You will oversee internal testing and testing performed at external labs. In this role, you must ensure equipment calibrations and preventative maintenance are kept up to date, help to identify required investments for continuous improvement of test equipment and test stations, and test new and existing products.

Your responsibilities

  • Support the product development teams as the test expert, familiar with the test standards and the test equipment
  • Work with teams to develop detail test plans based on standards and R&D requirements
  • Set up test objects and equipment to safely execute high voltage and high current testing
  • Write and issue professional test reports detailing test results
  • Be responsible for preventive maintenance, accuracy and calibrations of test equipment
  • Create and maintain new test equipment and fixtures to improve efficiency of testing
  • Support Quality teams on corrective actions
  • Interface with other ABB functions and labs to ensure proper testing has been completed
  • Provide technical support and testing for existing products, including analyzing field failures and production failures
  • Maintain thorough understanding of products and standards
  • Maintain lab equipment required for testing and validation


Your background

  • Bachelor degree in science or engineering (electrical preferred) with minimum of 3 years experience
  • Working knowledge of IEEE C57.13 and IEC 61869 standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to achieve cooperation and reach agreement with internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Experienced in planning and executing projects
  • Must be self-motivated with a high level of creativity
  • Experience in dealing with the cultural diversity of a global business environment
  • Strong ERP and computer skills required
  • Experience with data acquisition hardware and software required
