The Theatre Arts/Drama Teacher will provide students with the history of drama, assist students in creating their own dramatic pieces. Organize and manage the learning environment through formalized instruction to students on performance art.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach the foundational of emphasizing skills like enunciation, diction, and dialect development using speech drills, improvisation, explanation, and other voice exercises.
  • Explain the purpose of body language and expression, engagement of character development and personality projection, and help each student develop a personal style.
  • Guide students through the process of selecting, editing, casting, and directing plays and other theater art forms for public performances.
  • Hold rehearsals and evaluate student performances to ensure show quality by opening night.
  • Work with non-performing students on other play production tasks, including set construction, scene changes, lighting, sound, and special effects.
  • Explore theater work like applying stage makeup and creating costumes, along with playwriting and show creation.
  • Evaluate student's performance and growth in knowledge for progress reports and report cards.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development.
  • Prepare students and participate in All City and District-Wide Showcases/Performances.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs, such as drama club and exhibits.
  • Maintain a familiarity with current educational issues and trends.
  • Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the theory and techniques required to compose, produce, and perform works of acting and drama, stage, lighting and sound skills
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Alabama Professional Certificate in Education.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in English, Speech Communication or Theatre from an accredited college or university.
  • Must meet Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or a willingness to meet the requirements. SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY REQUIRE
