The Department of Health and Human Services , Behavioral Health and Crisis Services, is recruiting for Therapist I/II position for the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) within the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation.

This position is full-time and located in Boyds, Maryland. The licensed Therapist will work for the department's Medical and Behavioral Health Services Division.

The Therapist's primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing direct psychotherapy, clinical case management, crisis intervention, group therapy, and assessment and diagnostic evaluation and treatment for the inmates at MCCF.

Work hours can be 8 AM - 4:30 PM OR 9 AM - 5:30 PM with a work schedule of Sunday through Thursday. Specific work schedules may be flexible and will be determined by the supervisor.

Prior to appointment, all applicants must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, an interview, psychological evaluation, medical examination and drug/alcohol screen.

Generally, this position is covered by Employees' Retirement System, Group JK. If the successful candidate is an internal employee, retirement plan coverage will be determined at the time the job offer is made.

The expected hiring salary range for the Therapist I and Therapist II:

Therapist I grade 23 $71,299 - $113,906

Therapist II level, grade 24 $74,390 - $119, 104

Minimum Qualifications

At the Therapist I Level:

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, nursing, or a related behavioral science field.

Experience: None

Equivalency: None

License Requirement:

One of the following licenses, issued by the State of Maryland, must be held prior to appointment, and maintained by, the employee:
  • Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW).
  • Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC); or
  • Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT).

Possession and maintenance at all times of a: Valid Class C (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence when required for job-related duties.

At the Therapist II Level:

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, nursing, or a related behavioral science field.

Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience rendering therapeutic counseling, social work, nursing or psychology services, as pertinent to one's professional licensing.

Equivalency: None

License Requirement:

One of the following licenses, issued by the State of Maryland, must be held prior to appointment of, and maintained by, the employee:
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC);
  • Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapy (LCMFT);
  • Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC);
  • Licensed Certified Social Worker/Clinical (LCSW-C);
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the United States, certified as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland; or
  • Licensed Psychologist
Possession and maintenance at all times of a: Valid Class C (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence when required for job-related duties.

Preferred Criteria

The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevancy of training, and experience in the following areas:
  • Experience providing crisis intervention.
  • Experience conducting suicide assessment.
  • Experience providing clinical therapeutic services.
  • Experience treating clients with mental health and substance abuse disorders and;
  • Experience working with individuals with behavioral health needs.
