Job Goal

To coach other teachers, so that all teachers become better equipped to help the school achieve their goal of all students working on grade level material.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Positively impact all content areas by coaching instructional practices and content knowledge as outlined in the school improvement plan and the district's professional development plans.
  • Provides direction to classroom teachers in the facilitation of a comprehensive and collaborative improvement process to positively impact learning outcomes and increasing student achievement.
  • Supports the process for coaching and disseminating the use of curriculum resources, pacing guides, and other materials across classrooms, grade levels, and within the school.
  • Supports classroom teachers on a regular or as requested basis through collective and/or personalized learning opportunities; provides coaching and guidance to classroom teachers; assists in the identification and implementation of strategies to integrate new curriculum, etc.
  • Works with classroom teachers, staff and parents to support the development and implementation of the school's continuous improvement plan. Co-develops goals based on identified needs and creates learning opportunities and coaches based on improvement targets.
  • Designs, arranges, and participates in a variety of professional development services and activities based on curriculum and student learning goals, including in-service programs, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc. with the Principal and additional staff.
  • Prepares and presents demonstration lessons, curriculum updates, and instructional workshops to teachers on an individual/school-level basis to clarify information, ensure current teaching practices, promote teamwork, and improve learning results.
  • Monitors student learning outcomes and other program assessment data to ensure that desired performances are achieved within the school's objectives and evaluates curriculum effectiveness based on learning outcomes.
  • Supports classroom teachers in sorting and analyzing student work for determining instructional next steps.
  • Works with District Coaches, District Curriculum Specialists and teachers to promote effectiveness in day-to-day teaching practices and student learning outcomes.
  • Maintains positive relations with students, staff, and the community and seeks support and input to create and promote a cooperative educational environment.
  • Supports the Principal in the development of the Continuous Improvement Plan and Title I budget that adequately sustains instructional programs, activities, and needs identified in the school's comprehensive needs assessment.
  • Attends Title I monthly Curriculum Specialist meetings and other related training sessions as required.
  • Participates in joint meetings with Principals during on-site Title I reviews throughout the school year.
  • Organizes and maintains required Title I documents in a secure location.
  • Implements, coordinates, and monitors the Title I Interventionist Program to ensure at-risk students are provided additional instruction to improve academic performance.
  • Participates in various meetings to discuss and interpret information regarding curriculum and other relevant information.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A Master's Degree in education, plus State certification and five (5) years of successful teaching experience in the respective grade span (K-6, 6-8, 9-12) in which employment is sought is required. A valid Alabama Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Elementary Education (K-6) for Elementary schools, and/or an endorsement in Secondary Education for Middle, Junior High, High schools, is required. Title I School-Based Curriculum Specialists must also:
  • Possess a proven track record of improved student achievement in addition to successfully working with adult learners;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum and curriculum development;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the instructional program, instructional design, implementation and evaluation;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the state assessment program including, but not limited to, test interpretation and utilization;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the development of school improvement and intervention plans;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum and the ability to model best practices of teaching using the Coaching Cycle;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of professional development to support classroom instruction.

Physical Requirements

Requires light work exerting up to (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. Job involves sitting most of the time.
Terms of Employment

Ten-month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
