The NM DOH Family Planning Program (FPP) State Office staff work on fulfilling Title X grant requirements, including overseeing the quality of Title X services provided in Title X clinics statewide. We are responsible for a wide variety of essential public health services, some of which are sensitive or controversial, such as a full range of family planning services including the ¿morning after¿ pill, IUDs for teens, contraception, referrals for abortion and adoption counseling with or without parental consent per state statute, contracts with Planned Parenthood, and costly sterilization coverage for undocumented immigrants.

Why does the job exist?

This position provides clinical leadership to the Family Planning Program by providing education/training regarding clinical best practices, clinical direction to staff, and clinical supervision/oversight/consultation to FPP medical/clinical team; participating in clinical/medical teams to provide consultation, education, and training; ensuring that policies & protocols & procedures for medical care are compliant with accreditation and rules/regulations and medical standards.

How does it get done?

Key responsibilities include overseeing all clinical and medical issues pertaining to Title X and the Family Planning Program; providing direct supervision, leadership, and support for program clinical staff; and work in collaboration with program clinical staff to assure quality of and access to sexual/reproductive and family planning clinical services to meet goals and objectives in accordance with grant requirements.

Customers include clinical field office staff, contractors, state office staff.

Ideal Candidate

High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel spreadsheets and pivot tables.
Possessing strong communication and writing skills.
Ability to work in a team environment and independently, with a positive, team-oriented, and supportive attitude.

Minimum Qualification

Requires an MD, licensure and certification to practice in New Mexico and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a valid licensure through the NM Medical Board or the NM Board of Osteopathic Medicine to practice medicine in the State of New Mexico.

Working Conditions

Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Position might require infrequent travel and the provision of clinical family planning/reproductive health services (in-clinic and/or through telehealth modalities).
