The Traffic Engineer will be focusing on the technical side of projects completing the signal design and develop drawings for traffic signals, signing and pavement markings for designated transportation projects and overall transportation improvements.

Responsibilities
Perform Traffic Engineering and design assignments of a varied nature.

Assigned segments of design projects where Traffic Engineering work is to be done.

Conduct or supervise field activities such as traffic counts, traffic observations, origin destination studies.

Develop safety studies, intersection/interchange modification studies, signal timing studies, traffic modeling, signing and pavement marking plans, and DOT plans.

Perform traffic impact studies for new developments.

Assist on various Roadway Design elements.

Participate/prepare construction cost estimates, proposals, and bid evaluations.

Prepare client progress reports.

Follow established Quality Control procedures on all tasks.

Assist in business development within the firm's business development program.

Initiate and maintain contact with key professionals and officials of other organizations and companies, maintaining working relationships at all levels.

Become an active member in civic/professional activities, societies and organizations.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
2 to 10 years experience in Traffic Engineering
Professional Engineering (PE) License required or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date
Experience in use of traffic engineering software such as HCS, Synchro, Vissim, and RODEL.
Experience in development or implementation of traffic signal timing coordination/time-space diagram preferred
Prefer MicroStation and/or AutoCAD experience

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Roadway Lighting design experience is a plus.
PTOE is a plus (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer)
Experience with DOT and LAP Federal Aid projects in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and/or Ohio a plus.
