ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Human Services Department (HSD) provides a comprehensive array of services to help people meet emergency, short-and long-term needs, and help every individual reach their highest level of self-sufficiency. The Education ivision of HSD is responsible for overall implementation and monitoring of Head Start Performance Standards for more than 3,300 children through a directly operated program and contracted Education Service providers.

The Human Services Department currently has an opportunity to fill a Training Specialist position. The Training Specialist assists in developing, reviewing, implementing, and conducting professional development. Work is performed independently on routine and regular assignments. Work is reviewed through projects and observation of work methods and results.

Areas of responsibility:
  • Utilize research-based content to create and write new professional development.
  • Conducts and coordinates training activities with the guidance from the Professional Development Team.
  • Writes reports, memoranda, correspondence, newsletters, bulletins, and records.
  • Provides training in early childhood teaching, particularly Early Head Start and Head Start.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Demonstrates superior, seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
  • Communicates with the Professional Development Team to ensure consistency of program needs.
  • Supports and reviews the creation of new professional development materials and ensures all professional development criteria are met by using the Professional Development rubric.
  • Utilize data to identify and assess training needs within the Head Start Birth to Five Program.
  • Conducts program-wide needs assessment and identifies skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.
  • Maintain the ongoing implementation of the Learning Management System.
  • Provide support with parent learning opportunities.
  • Support conferences, seminars, and professional development committees.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of Principles and methods for curriculum and training design and measurement of training objectives.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and the principles of early childhood learning.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suites, videos, and computer accessories, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher.
  • Ability to communicate orally and written in a variety of settings so others will understand.
  • Ability to understand and implement complex federal regulations, such as Head Start Performance Standards.

SALARY

Pay Range: $26.83 to $43.71 per hour.

Hiring Range: $26.83 to $32.62 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in adult training or educational program development
  • Bachelor's degree in education, sociology, psychology or a related field
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Experience in adult training and in developing educational programs.
  • Experience with developing and using PowerPoint presentations and other multi-media in learning environments.
  • Experience analyzing data and writing reports.
