To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Transformer Test Technician I to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our Transformer Test Technician I play a critical role in the maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of a wide variety of electrical transformers from different Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's). The purpose of this role includes the following key responsibilities:

Location: Florida Region

Responsibilities:
  • Perform transformer testing and troubleshooting, including Megger, TTR, SFRA, Power Factor, Core Ground, etc.
  • Support the testing of transformers and accessories, including passivation.
  • Support the testing of alarms and system protections in the transformer.
  • Troubleshoot control wiring.
  • Participate in transformer electrical testing as specified by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), utility companies, end users, etc.
  • Document test results and accurately and promptly generate reports for customer submittal.
  • Complete the work orders as assigned and complete daily tasks related to the repair order.
  • Safely operate industrial and construction equipment, following capacity and load limits.

  • Ensure vehicles, tools, and equipment are in safe operating condition and perform necessary maintenance.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and environmental specifications for the area, especially related to spill containment.
  • Support the Sales team in providing leads for potential projects.
Assist in recruitment efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • 0-3 years of experience transformer testing and/or transformer services, including operating electrical equipment and shop tools.
  • Prior experience with transformer oil work and transformer assembly, including de-gassing and oil processing, is preferred but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office, online tools, and basic computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with both internal and external customers in a positive and professional manner
  • Knowledge or related experience in prepping units for disposal following proper environmental disposal procedures is a plus.
  • Able to work independently and complete projects with minimal supervision.
Other Requirements:
  • Work location varied depending on client and project assignment
  • Ability to travel 80% of the time including weekends and evenings.
  • Class A CDL preferred
  • OSHA certification and TWIC card are a plus

Working Conditions:

This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves the risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.

Physical Requirements:

The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communication in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
