Summary:
The Transplant Performance Improvement Outcomes Specialist is focused on the core components of quality, patient safety, and regulatory standard compliance for a designated solid organ transplant program(s). The Transplant (PI) Outcomes Specialist utilizes medical records, data systems, best practices, analysis of patient outcomes, and presentation of findings for planning, implementing process changes and external data submission for the purpose of obtaining /maintaining accreditations, certifications and payer obligations.
The Transplant (PI) Outcomes Specialist develops relationships with peer and programmatic staff and leadership to learn processes, identify gaps and opportunities and develop trust while gaining exposure with program staff, entity and peer roles and assigned committees. The role is scoped for candidates without internal experience of transplant outcomes whom will be partnered with a Lead or Senior role for mentorship while onboarding. The role is aimed to develop progressive competence and independence to lead and facilitate the quality/safety and regulatory aspects of their program and build accountability with QAPI processes, outcomes measurement and risk criteria, key performance indicators and data integrity.
The Transplant (PI) Outcomes Specialist will report directly to the Director of Quality, Safety & Regulatory as well as work with the Medical and Surgical Directors of the transplant program(s) in addition to other members of program leadership.

Responsibilities:
- Quality and Data Stewardship: Understand and leverage tools for internal data collection and content oversight / validation of external clinical data submission. Reviews data outliers and performs external data submission, analyses and reports on outcomes within the clinical registries.
- Performance Improvement: Acts as a resource to the designated transplant program(s) in planning and implementing a systematic process for measuring, evaluating and improving the quality and appropriateness of care provided to the patients by using performance improvement tools, PDSA model and the team approach.
- Patient Safety: Adapts the systems and tools to assess and identify themes and address controllable factors associated with safety events. Coordinates with associated staff and event manager and follow-up on investigation and closure plus communication of outcomes and lessons learned.
- Integration: Reports outcomes, opportunities for improvement and best practices to the designated transplant program(s), Transplant Institute leadership and/or hospital committees as requested. Actively participates in hospital-based quality improvement programs such as transplant patient selection committee, morbidity and mortality reviews (M&M), transplant quality meetings, transplant data/reporting meetings and /or UBCL.
- Regulatory: Learns the regulatory body standards of performance and criteria, applies learning in program assessment, and identifies gaps to address in coordination with peers and program leadership.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt / Lean Certification (Preferred)
- Nursing or other clinical degrees (Preferred)
- Master of Arts or Science (Required)
- Education Specialization: Business, Healthcare Administration or related field Equivalent Experience:
- And 3+ years acute care clinical experience, preferably in an academic medical center.
- 1+ years experience with supervising registry reporting initiatives (Preferred)
- 3+ years experience analyzing clinical data from medical records. Experience in PI Programs. (Preferred)
