Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Transportation Business Group Professional Services Leader, you'll be a key leader in our thriving Southern California operation, providing leadership and mentoring across our organization. We'll count on you to:

  • Be responsible to the Transportation Business Group Manager to develop, coordinate, monitor and improve technical competencies of area staff to meet client needs and market drivers
  • Assist with daily operations, such as project oversight, management reviews, financials and driving profitability at the project level
  • Supervise the key cross sector leads and ensure groups are providing critical value to the Socal BG in either growing, providing critical delivery or reducing risk by housing in-house specialties.
  • Lead and monitor development and training of area staff in technical and business competencies
  • Work with market sector leads on workload projections and coordinating workload sharing with other Business Groups or Areas
  • Lead quality assurance efforts to implement QA/QC Program activities striving for continuous improvement
  • Monitor project QC Review activities including assignment of experienced and qualified reviewers
  • Lead and monitor activities for continuous improvement including development and use of technical standards, procedures, best practices and lessons learned
  • Lead and participate in project reviews and support project teams with management of claims and losses. Participate in 0% reviews and project reviews, participate in RevRec meetings
  • Drive invoicing and A/R payments
  • Drive profitability through proactive Utilization Management
  • Lead the Area mentoring initiative and drive retention and recognition
  • Review hiring needs, requisitions and offers as delegated by Business Group Manager
  • Participate in key pursuit teaming, staffing discussion and fee development
  • Partner with Market Sector Development Leader and Project Delivery Leader
  • Meet with clients as needed to assess client satisfaction
  • Oversee technical and digital delivery evolution, in collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Work with Transportation Business Group Manager to streamline and coordinate business processes consistent with Area, corporate policy and MOA
  • Oversee and ensure implementation of quality, standards, and best practices
  • Collaborate with Area operations, market sectors, business classes, and delivery leaders
  • Participate in Area strategic planning and plan implementation
  • Review and approve fee proposals as delegated by Business Group Manager.
  • Participate in mid-year alignment meeting; support BDL in development of mid-year projections; annual budget projections and participate in meetings
  • Support area activities related to hiring and retaining key staff
  • Serve as a champion for BGX opportunities
  • Support communication and coordination within all business groups
  • Review and approve sponsorship and training requests as delegated by Business Group Manager

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must


Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of project management experience
  • PE
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the Southern California market
