Under the direction of the Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer (Supervisor), the Transportation Engineer, (Electrical) performs a wide variety of professional electrical and electronic engineering responsibilities to support the Traffic Safety & Operations-Transportation Management Center Division across various Transportation Management Systems (TMS) within the Electrical Construction Branch. This position supports the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and inspection of electrical and electronic systems for transportation and traffic management-related projects. As the incumbent progresses in experience, assignments are more complex and may take on a lead responsibilities overseeing the activities of electrical and electronic engineering and technical personnel. At the journey level and with a professional license, the incumbent may act in a responsible charge capacity.

Appointment to this position requires the incumbent to successfully pass the Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.

Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Electrical in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Special Requirements
Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Electrical) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.

Travel throughout the District is required, which includes San Diego and Imperial Counties. A valid driver's license is required to operate a State owned or leased vehicle.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)-Applicants must also submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). The SOQ is a discussion of how an applicant's education, training, experience, and skills meet the criteria in the duty statement and qualify the applicant for this position.

• Failure to include and complete the SOQ as instructed may not be considered and may result in disqualification for the interview.

• The SOQ must follow the number format, must respond to the criteria below, must not exceed two pages in length, and be typed in size 12-point Arial font.

1. Describe your knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience with electrical or electronic construction inspection, particularly related to transportation and traffic management systems. Provide examples of projects you have worked on or your fieldwork experience to ensure projects comply with standard specifications and engineering best practices.

2. Describe your experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team, such as collaborating, establishing, and maintaining relationships with team members, construction personnel, and others.

3. Describe your experience with communicating pertinent information including drafting/compiling reports, presenting, and providing recommendations.

4. Describe your analytical approach in estimating the cost and preparing specifications for electrical installations on a new project, making corrections or alterations based on field conditions, and providing feedback to the design team.

5. Describe your experience using Computer-Aided Drafting/Design (CADD) software or other personal computing tools for engineering tasks.
