Official Position Description:

In the Division of Construction Management, Office of Contract Sales & Estimating, acts as a Construction Cost Estimator preparing & reviewing cost estimates for various highway construction, maintenance & traffic standard projects (e.g., bridge overlays, culvert replacements, minor structures, asphalt paving). Estimates projects using bid histories & regressions, detailed cost sheets & other accepted estimating methods. Resolves plan discrepancies by working with districts, Central Office & consultants. Reads construction plans & operates computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Office & AASHTOWare Project Software) to prepare cost estimates, cost sheets, & bid documents. Reviews & analyzes bids tabs & data using a computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Excel & AASHTOWare Data Analytics) to determine if bids are fair & reasonable. Writes summary of analyses to Awards Committee using a computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Office). Assists district personnel in answering routine questions (e.g., planning or design budgetary estimates, project-related costs). Assists district construction personnel with analysis of change orders, & Value Engineering Change Proposals (e.g., prepares calculations, researches bid histories). Reviews, researches & acquires price quotations for labor, equipment & materials.

Reviews technical publications; attends & participates in seminars &/or workshops to obtain knowledge of current construction practices, new products & techniques. Travels periodically to district offices & construction sites to observe field operations to gain insight into practical application of materials & techniques utilized at work sites. Assists in special tasks as directed by supervisor related to generating estimating cost & associated reports using a computer & related software (e.g., AASHTOWare, Microsoft Word & Excel). Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering; Accepted for Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (EIT exam) by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
