Minimum Monthly Salary: $4,263.16

Maximum Monthly Salary: $6,779.25

Position Description

Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, and organize response of crews.
  • Assists with surverying-related work.
  • Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assisgnments.
  • Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
  • Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment.
  • Oversees contract workers and coordinates applicable activities.
  • Oversees the work of designated maintenance technicians and sign technicians.
  • Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
  • Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems, presenting operational updates to the supervisor, providing input on team members' career conversations, and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
  • Performs all other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

      • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
      • Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL, within 180 calendar days from date of employment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
  • Subject to noise
  • Subject to atmospheric conditions-fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation
  • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
  • Works frequently in small/crawl spaces; manholes; areas that can cause claustrophobia
  • Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
