JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Transportation Route Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Transportation

JOB GOAL: To assist in the development and implementation of a transportation program that effectively supports the needs of the system

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Two (2) years' successful experience and/or training in school transportation
• Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver license (ABL) and commercial driver's license (CDL) with P/S endorsement
• Maintain a current Alabama School Bus Physical or ALDOT Health Card as required by state law or the Alabama State Department of Education
• Possess and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record, including the ability to remain insurable under school system insurance requirements
• Experience with software for developing bus routes and related resources or technology relevant to school transportation
• Knowledge of streets, roads, and area constraints for general region
• Good interpersonal, public relations, and crisis management skills
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
2. Assists the Coordinator of Transportation with routing, scheduling, and dispatching buses
3. Oversees bus operations in the absence of the Coordinator of Transportation
4. Assists with the interviewing and selection of department personnel as requested
5. Assists in the evaluation of department personnel in accordance with Board policy
6. Establishes bus stops and routes under the direction of the Coordinator of Transportation
7. Works with school personnel in assigning students to routes
8. Assists the school district in the strategic planning of transportation requirements
9. Creates regular and special needs routes in consultation with the Coordinator of Transportation
10. Provides drivers/aides with information including directions, rosters, and changes in routes
11. Reviews all routes with drivers/maintains accurate information in the computerized routing system
12. Periodically rides buses to accurately assess the routes
13. Meets with drivers regarding concerns and complaints relative to their job performance
14. Assists the Coordinator of Transportation in the inspection of bus stops and routes as needed
15. Uses the computerized routing system to assist in forecasting, establishing, adjusting, and analyzing routing information, and provide reports
16. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
17. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
