Position Information

The Dallas District Project Delivery Office (PDO) and Local Let Team is looking for Transportation Specialist to work on the district's numerous project portfolio of local let projects. This position will have the opportunity to review plan sets during milestone submittals and coordinate with local government officials for letting of projects. This position will allow for great experience in project development processes through coordination with multiple offices including design, area office and local stakeholders.

This position is for a Transportation Specialist III, IV or V. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position Description

Provides planning, oversight, and high-level technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving multiple design and/or advanced building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Develops and/or interprets guidelines, regulations, laws, policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

  • Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work
  • Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates
  • Coordinates compilation of complete plan packages for submission to the responsible Engineer
  • Reviews plan packages submitted by consultants.
  • Evaluates and analyzes complex design issues.
  • Coordinates with roadway design on schematics.
  • Represents the Department at various meetings.
  • Coordinates proposals with other government officials.
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Transportation Specialist III, IV, or V - Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Transportation Specialist III, IV, V - 5 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) .

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

  • Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
