Job Summary

This position is located at Metro District in Roseville. The incumbent will have the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule. The incumbent will be required to report onsite Tuesday and Wednesday each week. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

This position assists in Traffic Engineering activities to ensure program delivery requirements of the unit are accomplished. This position is a key expert for investigating and processing Tort Claims and obtaining and analyzing crash reports from the CRASHMART and MnCMAT2 database systems. This position also writes and reviews Intersection Control Evaluation ((ICE) reports.

Job Duties: Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:
  • Point of contact for all Metro District Tort Claim issues/concerns.
  • Investigate traffic safety complaints or requests from the public, Cities, Counties, etc.
  • Prepare annual crash data reports.
  • Obtain crash listings, pull crash reports, construct collision diagrams to depict crash history at intersections. Draws crash strip maps.
  • Review crash and volume data at all intersections in the South Area.
  • Review and comment on plats, site plans, environmental reviews, and permits.
  • Perform field reviews as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Specialist level can be achieved with:
  • Four years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities;

OR
  • Three years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities AND on year of experience in any of the following areas: road maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/installation and/or permits.
  • A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. Degree equivalencies include the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and application of Traffic Control Devices, Traffic Engineering manuals and MnDOT design standards.
  • Knowledge of CADD, ArcGIS, and ArcView.
  • Knowledge of data collection techniques and analyzing data.
