This position is an essential member of our professional Operations team, with primary management responsibilities over our award-winning, 200,000 sq ft. Student Recreation Center. With supervision of 200 students employed annually, the Operations team promotes student development of professional competencies, with a focus on transferable skills required for success in the 21st-century workforce. Our new team member should be committed to elevating our department, institution, and community.

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Operations and Facilities, the Manager of Operations & Facilities, is responsible for the daily administrative and operational support of the Student Recreation Center and satellite recreational facilities. The position implements a wide variety of day-to-day responsibilities designed to ensure operational performance and provide quality service to members of the Student Recreation Center. Weekend and evening work is required.

This position will be hired at either the Student Services Program Assistant 1 [P1] classification or the Student Services Program Assistant 2 [P2] classification dependent upon the incumbent's experience, skills, abilities, and training as determined by the University. The Student Services Program Assistant 1 serves as an entry-level or early career professional who will work under more direct supervision and will regularly provide information on finished materials and completed tasks to others. The Student Services Program Assistant 2 performs a similar scope of duties with greater independence, working under general supervision and handling most work situations within established practices and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as Recreation Center Manager on Duty ensuring program policy, maintenance, safety, and risk management standards are met.
  • Provide supervisory support to student employees in the performance of their daily responsibilities, including the creation of work schedules and verifying hours worked.
  • Provide logistical support for programmatic units with the delivery of member services and provide leadership for assigned departmental programs and events.
  • Serve as a resource to individuals and groups on matters relating to policies and usage of the Student Recreation Center.
  • Implement risk management policy and procedure for all facility activities
  • Provide timely and accurate incident, accident, risk management, financial, and maintenance reporting and maintain accurate and accessible records related to all facility operations.
  • Support Associate Director with collecting, compiling, and assessing facility data.
  • Work collaboratively with Human Resources to hire new student personnel.
  • Maintain inventory for all facility equipment and operational resources.
  • Participates in various committees and advisory groups.
  • Instruct CPR/First Aid/AED classes for student employees and the UConn Community.
  • Review operating procedures for efficiency and effectiveness, and make recommendations for changes or improvements.
  • Assist in the training, onboarding, and ongoing evaluation of student employees. Provide written evaluations annually.
  • Coordinate facility and equipment maintenance with internal and external constituents.
  • Serve as the project manager to coordinate facility maintenance projects.
  • Drive department vehicles in support of satellite operations including implementation and supervision of scheduled special events.
  • Perform related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • For Student Services Program Assistant 1 Classification:
  • Bachelor's degree with 0 to 1 year of related experience; OR Associate's degree and 2 or more years of related work experience; OR 4 or more years of related experience without a college degree.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • For Student Services Program Assistant 2 Classification:
  • Bachelor's degree with 2 or more years of related work experience; OR Associate's degree and 4 or more years related work experience; OR 6 or more years of related experience without a college degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment on routine tasks.
  • Both classifications minimally require:
  • Current First-Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, stated commitment to, and/or experience working with diverse populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Documented professional experience in facility and operations management.
  • Direct experience working in student or customer service.
  • Proficient with software applications related to department operations (e.g., Fusion, Connect2Concepts, SubItUp).
  • First-Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position. The incumbent must have the ability to work flexible and irregular hours including weekends and holidays. This position also requires a valid driver's license and the ability to acquire a Connecticut Passenger "A" endorsement or equivalent.
