Summary of Position

Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of the University Library, and with input from appropriate stakeholders, the Library Communications Specialist coordinates the library's strategy for documenting and communicating the library's value to key constituencies and advancing the library's brand and visibility. Through their efforts, the Library Communications Specialist will significantly strengthen the visibility of the library, ensure that the library's value is effectively communicated to students, faculty and broader community, and maintain modern and impactful programming and communication strategies that optimize engagement with key audiences.

Leads the Communication and Outreach program and participates (is a member of) the following programs: Human Resources, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Sustainability ( IDEAS ), and Leadership and Planning programs. Serves as Administrative Partner.

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience (in a professional setting, communicating value through writing, editing, designing and/or producing social media or other marketing materials (e.g. designing/developing dashboards, media, press releases, talking points, fact sheets and other materials).
  • Demonstrated organization and project management skills and an ability to solve problems independently. Strong attention to detail. Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability and willingness to foster a healthy work environment;

  • Proficient computer skills and an ability to learn new computer software programs and platforms;

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, editing and social media skills. Graphic design experience, including familiarity with Canva, Visme, Pixelied, Adobe Creative or similar products.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and creative, with a familiarity with the contribution that library's make to student and faculty success and an ability to identify content that demonstrates the value of the UNH library.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications, media, journalism, higher education, communications or related field preferred.

Understanding of job specific processes, protocols and policies particularly as applied to academic research libraries

Duty/Responsibility
  • Lead the library's efforts to develop and implement a strategy for how to document the UNH Library's value.
  • Manage the library's brand and oversee library brand consistency and messaging, including managing and growing the library's social media, email communications and marketing programs to produce high quality communications.
  • Lead the library's Communications and Outreach program, which produces a wide array of print and electronic publicity materials, including the library's annual report and other strategic marketing assets, and the library's outreach activities including events, exhibits and programs.
  • Understand the library's mission and strategy and publicize library activities and events; Work with communications partners at UNH (both in the library and more broadly) to coordinate communication efforts.
  • Lead colleagues in design, production, and update of all print and digital collateral for the library, including but not limited to print publications, program sheets, brochures, flyers, newsletters, fact sheets, press releases, brochures, social media posts and reports in electronic, print, video and other formats, ensuring brand consistency.
  • Coordinate with photographers, freelancers, colleagues and external vendors as needed.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Serve on the Library's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity Accessibility and Sustainability Program, provide guidelines and strategy to inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility efforts ; regularly participate or lead relevant projects, particularly as they relate to library communications and outreach.
  • Coordinate a communications response to calls for participation in campus-level DEI initiatives or events.
  • Actively integrate the library's priorities around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Accessibility and Sustainability into library communications to create inclusive and engaging content for diverse populations.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Work closely with Library colleagues and colleague across campus (e.g. Residence Life, Student Accessibility Services, the Beauregard Center) to create and execute marketing plans in support of library services, resources, collections and programs.
  • Research, propose and initiative new traditional and digital media strategies to improve communications with key constituencies.
  • Provide regular reports on communications and marketing activity.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Participate in assessment activities that support documenting the library's value and participate in assessment conversations to plan how results will be communicated.
  • Work with library colleagues to identify and collect data that document the library's value to UNH , the state of New Hampshire and the broader academic community.
  • Lead the assessment of social media and other communications and marketing endeavors for effectiveness and impact.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Through the role of Administrative Partner, support employees by performing coaching check-ins throughout the year and compile feedback to inform the annual coaching for performance for coaches.
  • Support and encourage employee growth and development through established coaching mechanisms (including individual conversations, learning opportunities identification and support, managing performance improvement if/when necessary and contributions to the merit process.)
  • As a member of the Human Resources Program, and with HR leadership, coordinate and implement AAEO (accommodation) processes if/when needed.
  • Also through participation in the HR program, identify, plan and implement library-wide training opportunities.
  • Participate in employee recruitment and hiring of both regular benefitted and adjunct labor as needed.
  • Record employee time and leave semi-monthly.
