MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduate or equivalent work experience including ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology. Medical Secretary or similar training course preferred.

• Previous Nursing Secretary experience or satisfactory completion of Medical Secretary or similar training program preferred.

• Working knowledge of medical terminology, hospital, and telephone etiquette.

• Excellent customer service skills.

• Must demonstrate a work history of being a self-starter, working independently with minimum daily direction, and self-motivation with goal directed sales skills.

• Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.

• Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Serve as the telephone receptionist for the nursing wing and ensure that communication from/to patient families, physicians, other healthcare providers, etc. is delivered in a timely and polite manner.

• Check faxes and printers for the receipt of laboratory & pharmacy reports and deliver timely to appropriate nursing personnel and/or physicians.

• Input laboratory test orders into the laboratory computer program.

• Collect information from physician rounds, including physician orders, and distribute as appropriate to nursing personnel and retain in medical record.

• Assist with completion of physician orders.

• Print physician progress notes when needed

• Communicate with radiology and other healthcare providers regarding needed exams to be conducted at the facility.

• Maintain Unit Secretary Logbooks

• Answer call lights as necessary

• Assist in maintaining medical record files located at nursing station.

• Maintain forms supply at and ensure organization of nursing station.

• Assist with admission of patients.

• . Maintain form supply

• Filing in medical records

• Assist with customer service issues as needed.

• Other duties as assigned.
