Job Description Summary
The study program assistant will be working specifically on a study titled, “Advancing the Evidence for HVIPs in the Southeast: Comprehensive Patient- Centered Outcomes & Stakeholder Insights.” The purpose of the study is to assess outcomes and perceptions of patients and families that are treated for violent injuries, including those served by a hospital violence intervention program (HVIP). In addition, the study will assess perceptions from healthcare providers that care for violently injured patients. The program assistant will be directly working with the research team to carry out recruitment, data collection, documentation, coordination of participant follow-up, and tracking study progress. This will include recruiting individuals in the healthcare setting and working closely with the HVIP team for recruitment and participant engagement. This is a mixed methods study employing survey (quantitative) and interview (qualitative) data. The program assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator who is a trauma surgeon and public health researcher, and will work closely with the entire research team and hospital violence intervention program.

Preferred Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree. Ability to use Microsoft Excel and manage large datasets. Works independently with minimal supervision. Proactive. Must exercise judgment and discretion and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Reliable and well-organized. Must be able to communicate effectively and demonstrate principles of trauma-informed care when working with vulnerable populations who have been violently injured. Preference for prior research or program experience in areas related to public health including health disparities and vulnerable populations.

Job Duties:
- 35% - The program assistant will engage participants for follow-up and carry out data collection including medical record review, survey administration, and participant interviews.
- 20% - The program assistant will identify potential participants for recruitment and enroll participants (in-person, email, phone).
- 15% - The program assistant will ensure accurate data documentation within the study databases.
- 10% - The program assistant will obtain and document informed consent, maintain consent documents, and oversee administration of participant reimbursement.
- 10% - The program assistant will organize regular study updates (including recruitment, enrollment, follow-ups, etc.) to present to the study team and utilize in outcomes reporting.
- 10% - The program assistant will collaborate with study team members, the stakeholder committee and members of the violence intervention program to problem solve and engage participants through regular meetings and communication.
