Purpose of Position
Performs as a member of the Urgent Center Nursing Team to assist physicians and staff nurses in providing care to Urgent Center patients in accordance with established policy and procedures

Description
  1. Participates as a frontline care giver to patients in the Urgent Center
  2. Provides direct patient care and collects physical, psychological and social patient data under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  3. Assists in the timely, complete and proper provision of patient care as established through regulatory agency recommendations and standards policies, procedures, standards and protocols.
  4. Is familiar with equipment in the department and the location of all items.
  5. Assesses personal and learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly updates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
  6. Orients other UC Techs to the unit as assigned by the manager.
  7. Performs other work-related tasks and activities as assigned or requested by manager.
  8. Under the direct supervision of the Physician assist in provide direct patient care to center patients. Triage and evaluate patients, obtain major complaints and brief medical history when necessary and take vital signs with complete chart documentation (including name, medical record #, allergies, current medications with routine update with each visit).

  1. Conduct EKG'S
  2. Lab draws
  3. Assist with crutch fitting and walking
  4. Assist in Triage as needed
  5. Applies compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles
  6. Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge

  1. Assist with decontamination, cleaning and preparation of exam rooms as needed
    1. Stock area daily
    2. Inventories and requisitions supplies
  2. May assist in patient registration, intake and answering phone calls at the center.


Qualifications
Urgent Care Technician (P013) EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING :
  1. Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  2. Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
    1. Currently licensed as a CNA in MA with at least one year of patient care experience
    2. Currently licensed as an EMT in MA
    3. Proof of completion of a paramedic program
    4. Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program OR medical school program and have successfully completed one academic year which includes two semesters of clinical practice
    5. Has 1-3 years of direct patient care experience within an Urgent Care, or Physician's Office
  3. Current BLS certification

Urgent Care LPN (P015) EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING :
  1. Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  2. Currently licensed as an LPN in MA
  3. Current BLS certification
