US Navy Projects Sales Manager

Position Summary

The Sales Manager provides management and oversight of the sales team in the identifying of opportunities, quoting customer demand, providing timely customer service, and cultivating enduring relationship to facilitate the capture of business. The Sales Manager serves as the face of the company in development of new opportunities, pre-award negotiations, and in-process quoting activities. The sales manager is responsible for achieving the organizations sales goals with the guidance and support of the Director of Business Development. In support of these responsibilities, directly reporting to the sales manager, is the Sales team made up of contract support specialists, inside sales reps, and contract requirements analyst.

Principal Activities
  • Leads cross-functional team in a matrix organization to ensure timely delivery of quotes to the U.S. Navy and the supporting defense industrial supply base
  • Teams that support this process include engineering, planning, purchasing, operations, quality, and program management
  • Process, review, and manage quoting activities for customer solicitations ensuring requirements are understood and scope is appropriately defined and estimated
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of quotes presented for internal review and approval
  • Submit approved quotes to the customer and manage conversion of the proposal into an order
  • Finalizes negotiation with customers. Knowledge of T&C's is necessary
  • Proactive communications with the customers throughout the quoting/capture phase to ensure PO placement timelines are understood and customer demand changes are identified promptly
  • Coordinate with internal teams and submit responses to customer inquiries throughout the quoting/capture process
  • Serve as a technical resource and have the organizational agility to work with others to find answers and solve problems
  • Develop in depth product knowledge to facilitate product discussions with the customer and to recommend potential solutions to meet the customers' needs
  • Provide updates to the organization on customer discussions (voice of the customer) and ensure action is being taken to meet customer expectations
  • Maintain accurate and current sales metrics (for example: the tracking of opportunities)
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management

Job Requirements:

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong commitment to process and procedure adherence
  • Experience leading medium- to large-scale quotations
  • Knowledge of working in a technical environment. Familiar with standard manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
  • In-depth understanding of concepts and principles in customer service. Able to solve routine and complex problems using information sources provided, or by conceptual and innovative thinking, with or without supervision
  • Self-starter, organized, thorough, and meticulous
  • Able to plan and prioritize work to meet demanding customer and internal deadlines
  • Able to maintain a high level of accuracy producing quality work
  • Ability to lead by influence
  • Intermediate data entry skills and proficient using Microsoft Office Suite

Education
  • Bachelor's degree, in business, STEM, finance, or economics, with at least five years' relevant experience. Significant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree on a case-by-case basis.
