Position Overview:
The Shift Technician plays a critical role in supporting research activities for evaluating the performance of fuels (gasoline/diesel) and fuel additives. This position involves conducting engine tests with vehicles, automotive engine test stands, and specialized research engines as part of a collaborative team of mechanics and technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate automotive test engines and vehicles according to established specifications during rotating shifts (Day, Swing, and Grave).
- Monitor operations and make necessary adjustments to control systems to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Diagnose problems and perform repairs on test engines and control systems.
- Maintain adequate fuel supply for all engines and vehicles.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve operational goals.
- 3-5 years of experience in automotive engines or mechanical systems.
- Experience in a technical environment.
- General engine knowledge through recent education or work experience as a mechanic.
- Proficient in monitoring and adjusting process control systems.
- Basic math skills (algebra).
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Formal training in automotive technology, electronics, or automated control systems.
- Experience with shift work or off-hours (highly desirable).
- Formal technical training in automotive mechanics/technology (ASE Certified or similar certification).
- Formal training in electronic instrumentation.
- Rotating Shifts: Candidates must be available for all three shifts, working each shift for two months at a time:
- Morning Shift: 5am - 1pm
- Swing Shift: 1pm - 9pm
- Grave Shift: 9pm - 5am
- Initial training period of six weeks includes two weeks on each shift (morning, swing, grave).
- Potential for extension of the position.
- Shift differentials available (Swing 3% | Graveyard 7%).
