Job Description :

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the fabrication and assembly of spaceflight products. Working with a program team and Program Ops Manager (POM) this function effectively oversees and provides instruction for production activity. The effort requires adherence to all functional procedures, program budgets, and schedules.

Required Skill Set :
• Develop the specific methods and instructions for manufacture and/or assembly of products.
• Provide support of manufacturing and assembly efforts within the factory with added focus on resolving production issues.
• Engage in engineering design teams to determine manufacturing feasibility, identify potential fabrication problems, address special fabrication requirements, apply new manufacturing technology, and evaluate manufacturability within design-to-cost (DTC) targets.
• Review and implement engineering changes to determine feasibility, producibility and delta labor impact.
• Manage the product bill-of-material (BOM) and process plans.
• Establish touch labor estimates for each process plan.
• Work with the program team to provide make versus buy recommendations.
• Provide support of supply chain in evaluating manufacturing issues at suppliers.
• Define tool and gage requirements. Provide the necessary input and support to the tool design group.
• Ensure protective packaging is adequate for in-process movement of hardware.
• Provide input to the Technician for in-house assembled shipping containers.
• Provide input to Supply Chain for shipping containers that need to be purchased.

Desired Skills Set :
• 0-6 years of experience in manufacturing or in interfacing with manufacturing organization on a recurring basis.
• Experience in writing of build procedures for assemblies (preferably NASA/Space Industry)
• Experience evaluating and implementing technical specifications.
• Ability to work on tight schedules
• Working knowledge of SAP, MES (Solumina), and continuous improvement programs is encouraged
• Strong computer skills specifically in MS Office and database products.
• Some travel may be needed for this position (approx. 10% or less) This job is considered a sensitive position in accordance with NASA Guidelines. The selected candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per NASA's regulation subpart 1823.5 Drug-Free Workforce.
