The purpose of this position is to fulfill one or more of the operational work objectives of maintaining the City's streets and sidewalks. This work includes maintaining, inspecting, repairing, and constructing streets and sidewalks; and other general trades and performing skilled and semi-skilled work as required. Experience with paving is necessary. Incumbent is expected to understand project or task objectives, identify and execute the appropriate tasks, use tools correctly and to successfully complete assigned work with minimal instruction. Work is performed individually, as part of a larger work unit, may involve the supervision of others and requires the use of good judgment. Ability to take a leadership role in the absence of supervision. Supervision is varied.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.   • Performs maintenance and repair work on municipal streets and sidewalks including concrete and brick sidewalks, masonry and stone structures, drainage, asphalt surfaces, crack sealing, pothole filling, curb, brick, and other repairs as directed.
  • Participates in snow removal activities which includes the driving of sidewalk tractors, plows, the use of plow wings as required, shovels, and otherwise maintains facilities and walkways as required.
  • Maintains and repairs fences.
  • Performs all types of maintenance and repair work for which the individual is trained.
  • Reads instructions, plans, and specifications as needed.
  • May participate in the repair and maintenance of outdoor and enclosed facilities.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment as required following training.
  • Lays cement sidewalks, floors, brickwork and stonework.
  • Is subject to call out to respond to emergencies after normal working hours.
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS -

Applicants for this position must have graduated from high school or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED), and have a working knowledge of one or more trades. Must possess a valid commercial drivers license (CDL), class B, and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City. Obtaining additional certifications or licensing my be required.
