Individuals in this position fulfill one or more of the operational work objectives of maintaining , inspecting , repairing and constructing City buildings and property, water distribution and wastewater collection facilities, storm drain system , and street related facilities or controls requiring the application of s p ecia lized skills such as carpentry, plumbing , electricity, masonr y , automotive, painting , utility line inspection , and other general trades and performing skilled and semi-skilled work as required. Employees in this position are expected to understand project or task objectives, identify, and execute the appropriate tasks, use tools correctly and to successfully complete assigned work with minimal instruction. Work is performed individually , as part of a larger work unit , may involve the supervision of others and requires the use of good judgement. Supervision is varied. Performance is subject to review according to the City's personnel plan through observatio n , reports and the results achieved .

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed.   1. Performs maintenance and repair work on municipal buildings such as repairing roofs, steps , fences, doors ; maintaining and repairing plumbing and heating systems; painting interior and exterior surfaces. Reads instructions , plans and specifications.
  2. Perform s all types of maintenance and repair work for which the individual is trained.
  3. Maintains and repairs damaged or inoperative water meters, hydrants and valves. Flushes and cleans water or sewer mains or piping, swimming pool filter systems, chlorination devices and pumps. Appropriately adjusts regulating equipment.
  4. Repairs and maintains a variety of tractors, lawn mowers , rototillers and other small motor or engine driven equipment. May perform minor automotive mechanic work on small and large trucks and other vehicles. Welds , fabricates and performs body work incidental to these functions.
  5. Repairs and maintains outdoor and enclosed facilities such as playing fields, playgrounds, ice rinks and picnic areas. Cuts and grooms grassed areas. Spreads, rolls and seeds loam. Shapes and maintains sports or play areas. Floods ice rinks and controls snow and ice. Operates heavy equipment as required.
  6. Lays cement sidewalks , floors, brickwork, manholes , catch basins and stone work. Plasters and lay s block. Maintains traffic control devices such as pavement striping, s i g ns and replacing light bulbs in signals. Performs street and parking garage repairs.
  7. Perform video inspection of sanitary sewer and storm drain lines and maintain data from the inspections.
  8. Is subject to call out to r e spond to emergencies after normal working hours.
  9. Prepar e s, maintains and reports work according to approved formats and procedures .
  10. Operates and checks city vehicles correct for fluid level s , pressures and general operating condition. Cleans and washes any assigned vehicles weekly. Reports maintenance issues .
  1. Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS -
App lic ants for this po s ition mu s t h ave grad u ated from hi g h s chool or h ave earned a gra duate eq ui va l e nt dip l oma (GED), ha ve a wo rkin g knowledge of one or more trades a nd n o t le ss than three (3) years ' experience in construction or maintenance wor k .

New hires must obtain before the end of their probationary period and incumbents must possess a valid commercial driver's license, class B and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City.

Must possess a Water Distribution License Grade I and a Sewer Collection License Grade I or the ability to acquire appropriate licensing within eighteen (18) month s from the date of original appointment. Additional certifications and licensing may be required .
