Job Description

The Vascular Sonographer Technician II role at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) involves performing diagnostic vascular ultrasound procedures under the direction of physicians and senior sonographers. This position requires advanced technical skills, knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology, and a strong commitment to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct diagnostic vascular ultrasound examinations, including carotid, peripheral arterial, venous, and abdominal studies, following established protocols and guidelines.
2. Prepare patients for procedures, explain the process, and address any concerns or questions they may have.
3. Operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality images of vascular structures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to imaging standards.
4. Analyze ultrasound images, identify abnormalities, and provide preliminary findings to physicians for further evaluation and diagnosis.
5. Maintain accurate patient records, including procedure details, patient demographics, and image documentation in electronic medical records (EMRs) or imaging systems.
6. Collaborate with the medical team, including radiologists, vascular surgeons, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated patient care and optimal outcomes.
7. Assist in training and mentoring junior sonographers and students, providing guidance on best practices and technical skills development.
8. Participate in quality assurance initiatives, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to stand for extended periods and move equipment, including ultrasound machines and patient positioning aids.
2. Lift and position patients for optimal imaging, requiring physical strength and dexterity.
3. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating ultrasound probes and adjusting imaging settings.
4. Visual acuity and attention to detail for interpreting ultrasound images and identifying subtle abnormalities.
5. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, adapting to changing patient needs and priorities.
6. Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications:

1. Associate degree or higher in diagnostic medical sonography or vascular technology from an accredited program.
2. Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification through ARDMS or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) certification through CCI preferred
3. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a vascular sonographer technician in a clinical setting, with proficiency in a wide range of vascular ultrasound procedures.
4. Strong knowledge of vascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology, with the ability to recognize and interpret complex vascular images.
5. Excellent communication skills, professionalism, and a patient-centered approach to care.
6. Proficiency in using ultrasound equipment and imaging software, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize image quality.
