Description

The University of Chicago’s Department of Surgery, Section of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, is searching for full-time faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor. Appointees will be fellowship-trained vascular surgeons with a strong interest and expected career trajectory in vascular surgery and basic science research. Appointees will work closely with current labs in the Section which have expertise in computational modeling of cardiovascular disease and its interaction with the physical properties of human tissue. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity. Compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) is dependent upon qualifications.

The University of Chicago Heart & Vascular Center has nationally recognized research and education programs that build on collaborations throughout the University and is active in clinical operations and quality improvement in the Medical Center.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Surgery or the foreign equivalent, and 4) have completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery.

We especially welcome applicants with ability and interest in providing administrative and outreach effort associated with building a vascular program and a robust research portfolio. Of particular interest are mouse models of aortic disease both acquired (hyperlipidemia, hypertension, smoking) and inherited (aortopathies), and knowledge base in murine aortic surgery. We also welcome applicants who have prior experience in working with computational groups and have a track record of independent NIH funding (prior successful R01, K99, or F32 awards). Additionally, we welcome applicants with ability and interest in dialysis access and venous disease.
