The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for a Vascular & Endovascular Surgery faculty position. This position will offer the opportunity for growth in the clinical care services offered to the region's vascular surgical population and for participation in student, resident, fellow and post-graduate mentorship and teaching. Candidates desiring to serve the vascular population in an academic environment, pursuing scholarly achievement, will be considered. Rank and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications. The Department of Surgery has strong ACGME accredited training programs with a reputation for excellence, including our Vascular Surgery program currently consisting of 5 plus 2 (accredited independent pathway) fellows, and our general surgery residency.

The University of Virginia Health System is a major referral institution with several system growth initiatives in process. We care for patients with the full spectrum of vascular disease. Our ambulatory and inpatient practices focus on complex vascular surgery, including open and endovascular management of aortic pathologies, lower extremity ischemia, venous diseases, vascular access, and cerebrovascular disease. We enjoy state-of-the-art endovascular hybrid suites, multiple new hybrid operating rooms, negative flow interventional and catheterization suites, and modern cardiovascular intensive care and ward units. The successful candidate would participate in and assist in all elements of vascular surgical practice in our team-and-center-based care programs, including ongoing efforts in our aortic center, limb-preservation program, venous center, hemodialysis access system, and outreach clinics. Our group is integral in care relating to UVA as a level I Trauma Center and an accredited Stroke Center. The candidate would have the opportunity to engage and further develop and lead our multidisciplinary limb-preservation program in collaboration with our team of medical specialists, interventional colleagues and surgical podiatric service.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a medical degree, have completed or be currently completing, a vascular fellowship or residency. Candidates must be board-eligible or board-certified in vascular surgery and have expertise in the care of vascular patients with a particular interest in limb-preservation and peripheral arterial disease. Possession of RVT or RVPI is required as we also manage multiple Diagnostic Vascular Laboratory sites. Interested individuals must possess a strong interest in a career in academic medicine as demonstrated through past experience with research or teaching pursuits and a thoughtful, prepared proposal for an academic career path.
