Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Grounds Supervisor and performs diagnosis, maintenance and repairs to automotive vehicles, small engines, large/agricultural vehicles and related equipment to ensure effective functioning of institutional vehicles and equipment.

What You'll Do
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs complex parts and systems for small, automotive, and large-engine vehicles and equipment under general supervision to ensure optimal and safe operation.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots complex vehicle and small-engine issues and collaborates with work unit staff to resolve issues.
  • Documents completed maintenance and repairs according to established policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a point of contact for individuals providing information and updates about vehicle and small-engine maintenance and repairs.
  • Operates all facility equipment and assists with grounds maintenance tasks when requested.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent at time of application
  • 2 years experience in vehicle and/or small engine repair and maintenance
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment. Individual may be required to obtain a Wisconsin Commercial Driver's license after appointment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year mechanic certificate or equivalent experience
  • 5 years experience in equipment maintenance and repair field

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physical strength and stamina to perform required work, including being able to bend, stoop, kneel, lye on your back on a creeper for short periods, climb, lift up to 80 pounds, and work on your feet for a long period of time
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including operation of tools and equipment

Conditions of Appointment

Position is a full-time 100% University Staff appointment. The work hours for this position will be 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s). A six-month probationary period is required for this position. Compensation and Benefits

SALARY INFORMATION

Hourly pay range of $21.00 - $23.00.

This position will earn an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

BENEFIT DETAILS

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
