Job Responsibilities

Assists with preparing light-medium duty trucks including installation of truck bodies, warning lights, two-way radios, agency decals, vehicle number stenciling, and other accessories.

Assists with use of computerized test equipment to diagnose computer control systems. Diagnoses and replaces vehicle on-board computers, oxygen sensors, coolant sensors, throttle position sensors, crank and position components associated with the computer controlled vehicles.

Assists with diagnosing, repairs or replacing parts as necessary on all automotive gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, exhaust systems, cylinder heads, valves, timing belts, cooling systems, and electrical systems. Operates and performs testing with new generation start tester and monitoring testing equipment in order to diagnose problems with various on board computer systems.

Assists with diagnosing and repairing air conditioning components to include expansion valves, evaporators, condensers, compressors, receiver dryers, line and other related components and switches. Evacuates and recharges system.

Assists with service calls which may include the repair of vehicles and/or towing, including operation of the tow vehicles. Assists with transporting of vehicles and equipment needing repairs to and from vendors when necessary. Assists with performing shop inventory as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Six (6) months of work experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. grasping .This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of

time. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
