Job Summary: Serves as working leader of three or more Vending mechanics NA-10 performing servicing and repairs. Trains Vending Mechanics in proper procedures and technical aspects of vending operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establishes sequence of operations for work group led to include an on call schedule. Provides adequate staffing effects changes in work assignments and methods as needed. Takes necessary action to assure economical use and protection of supplies tools equipment and cash.
  • Responsible for passing on to Vending Mechanics instructions and setting the pace for accomplishing Vending Mechanic duties. Training new employees and answers their questions on procedures assures schedules and priorities are adhered to and keeps manager informed of the status and progress of work assignments and advises problem areas. Performs the same work as employees led which consists of the following
  • Repairs broken machines locates worn dirty poorly adjusted parts through visual preventative maintenance checks selects tools determines the method and techniques to follow depending on the machine. Determines parts required obtaining replacement information from manufacturers parts or by comparison with samples removed. Ensures adjustments meet manufacturers specifications uses voltage regulator circuit testers etc. as required.
  • Replaces defective parts of components and system such as tubing and electrical circuits makes necessary modifications on machines.
  • Periodically overhauls machines involving spray painting reconnecting loose wires checking refrigeration systems for maintenance of proper temperatures etc. sanitizes for bacteria. Cleans interior checks for defects ensures wire harnesses are tied together and checks for short circuiting. Notifies manager of major problems encountered.
  • Prepares requisition of required parts for procurement. Maintains stock of parts tools and equipment ensuring tools are properly protected to prevent rusting and loss. Also maintains service and technical manuals up-to-date.
  • Relocates and installs new machines at locations. Makes settings and adjustments on food dispensing liquid dispensing and coin changer units.
  • Operates motor vehicle in the performance of duties. Loads and unloads equipment from vehicles insures that equipment is protected from damage or bad weather. Prepares and maintains Daily Trip Report of all trips made.
  • Performs inspection of vehicle for proper maintenance such as checking gas and oil required oil change tune-ups etc. Cleans vehicle and secures in designated area at end of day. Obtains receipt for all repairs and maintains records of repairs made. Does preventative maintenance on vehicle.
  • Responsible for conducting periodic inventory of supplies and equipment determines discrepancies and accounts for all equipment.
  • Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Travel short and long distances TDY may be required for this position to ensure that all locations within the district are serviced.
  • Perform duties of a Vending Route Driver during demanding business needs.
  • Associate may be required to be on call. Performs other related duties as assigned. Works under the general supervision of a designated manager. Refers all grievances and complaints to supervisor manager. Performs normal day-to-day assignments independently referring unusual or complex problems to a manager for resolution. Completed work is reviewed for the standpoint of continual and efficient operation and patron satisfaction.


This position is covered by American Federation of Government Employees, Local 3723 Union Agreement

PHYSICAL EFFORT Works on location or at the shop. Stands stoops bends stretches and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift parts and heavy equipment. Regularly lifts and transports moderately heavy objects weighing up to 40 lbs. Occasionally handles heavier items with assistance or materials handling equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS Most work is performed inside. Performs repairs outside sometimes in bad weather. Dirt dust and grease may be present. . Drives in all types of weather.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must possess a valid state drivers license.
  2. Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely.
  3. Must be able to pass appropriate background checks needed for the specific area of responsibility e.g. Federal DOD Security Clearance etc. .
  4. Pass the GSA defensive driving course


Total of 7 years experience consisting of the following

GENERAL EXPERIENCE One year of experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of general repair.

OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience.

AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Six years of experience performing repair overhaul servicing and diagnostic work on a variety of mechanical and electronically operated machinery

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Standing climbing bending and occasionally working in cramped and awkward positions. Handling objects weighing from 10 to 60 pounds and occasionally objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds to include vending machine movements.
