Vice President, Design and Construction

The Vice President of Design and Construction will oversee Grady Health System's construction projects from concept to completion, including design, team selection, and construction management. This leader will guide a multidisciplinary team encompassing architectural planning, project management, activation, and analysis. Additionally, the Design and Construction leader will collaborate closely with clinical and operational leadership, as well as Facilities Management, to ensure the successful execution and implementation of projects

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide strategic leadership in facility planning and project development for construction initiatives, collaborating closely with the VP of Facilities and Safety to enable infrastructure projects.
  • Lead master campus planning and project implementation through a dedicated team focused on project planning, management, and activation.
  • Ensure adherence to evidence-based facility design principles for all new project developments.
  • Engage subject matter experts to develop budgets and implement robust cost management processes across all projects.
  • Manage space assignments and facilitate space requests to optimize the utilization of facility resources.
  • Oversee and nurture business relationships with external contractors, including architects, engineers, construction firms, and subcontractors.
  • Guide the selection process for architectural, engineering, and construction partners to ensure effective project implementation.
  • Collaborate with operational teams, clinical staff, facilities management, and safety personnel to leverage expertise for successful project outcomes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of facility guidelines, state and local licensure, as well as regulatory and permitting processes.
  • Build and foster relationships with diverse suppliers to promote engagement at Grady, partnering with the supplier diversity department.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team by providing opportunities for professional development and growth in project management excellence.


Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of ten years of construction and project management experience within complex healthcare environments is essential.
  • Certification/Registration/Licensure: PMP or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Skills or Special Abilities:

    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver compelling presentations.
    • Strong analytical skills to assess and optimize project performance.
    • Must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of facilities management and operations in a healthcare setting.
