The Georgia Mountains YMCA is seeking a VP of Development to guide our efforts in philanthropy and community relations.
Job Description
Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), The Vice President (VP) of Development serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Georgia Mountains YMCA. In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build the Y’s nonprofit visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP of Development also will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support. The VP of Development will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to increase contributions through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, corporate and foundation support, annual support and planned giving. S/he will expand and diversify the Georgia Mountains YMCA’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. In addition, the VP will work closely with the board of directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in human services, nonprofit management, business, marketing or equivalent required; CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) and/or CFRM (Certified Fund Raising Manager) preferred.
2. Ten plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization, demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
3. Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing relationships over time.
4. Proficient in all standard business software
5. Excellence in organization and communication (verbal & written) skills
6. Ability to work with initiative, integrity, discretion and a professional approach
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment
YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred
Essential Functions
1. Create and execute Board approved comprehensive Philanthropy Plan
2. Manage capital campaigns, engaging and overseeing capital campaign firms as necessary
3. Direct and administer total operation of Development including the interpretation and execution of established policies, the development of procedures and methods, staffing, evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs and operation
4. Manage data software system and evaluation of effectiveness
5. Develop and execute cultivation/stewardship plan for major gift donors
6. Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate giving
7. Train and lead other staff members in marketing and fundraising efforts
8. Search and write grant proposals and reports to corporate, foundation and government funders that align with our mission
9. Develop and manage board fundraising capacity
10. Develop a strong presence in the community through effective networking, relationship-building, and storytelling
11. Supports and attends organization events and programs
