Under the general direction of the College President, the Vice President of Student Services provides leadership and direction of all Student Services programs, including planning and budget oversight, selection of staff, and accountability for all categorical programs. The college is seeking an individual to join in our efforts to continually improve student access, success and completion.

The Vice President of Student Services provides direct supervision for all student services administrators, including Student Development, Student Support Services, Equity Programs and Pathways, and Counseling, and leads in the shared development of, articulates, and champions the vision, values, mission, and goals of Student Services within the college, district, and community.

The Vice President of Student Services works with the Vice Presidents of other college operational areas to lead and support the planning and implementation of college-wide programs and initiatives, including our institutional redesign efforts (also referred to as guided pathways reform).

The Vice President of Student Services engages with their colleagues throughout the Los Rios Community College District in the evaluation of district regulations, policy and/or procedures that relate to effective implementation and accurate accountability.

The department maintains a focus on:
  • Delivering integrated and comprehensive student services, particularly for students who face a variety of economic and educational barriers impeding their success.
  • Leveraging technology to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of student services operations.
  • Building collaborative relationships within and among various student services and instructional departments as well as other constituent groups throughout the college and community.
  • Assessing program effectiveness, developing and implementing goals, expediting work flow, and holding staff accountable, while bringing projects to timely and successful completion.
  • The advancement of students and diversity.
  • Staff professional development and training.
  • Respect and civility in the workplace and academic community at-large.
  • Planning and facilitating positive organization change, while considering the lived experiences of others.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Acknowledging that race, culture, and language play a significant role in the success of our students, and the position strives to create and nurture culturally competent and linguistically appropriate services for all students.
  • Serving as the general administrator of Student Services functions at the main campus and outreach centers, including, but not limited to, counseling, matriculation, articulation, financial aid, Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS)/Learning Disability (LD), Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKS), veterans services, transfer center, health services, student development programs, and career and student employment.
  • Serving as one of the senior administrators for implementing and assessing significant institutional redesign efforts.
  • Anticipating and responding to the needs of students and the community, changing demographics and organizational needs.
  • Collaborating with institutional research, instructional leaders, and others to foster innovation through an empirically sound culture of inquiry and decision making.
  • Ensuring accountability of student services categorical programs, and compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and district and college policies and procedures.
  • Developing and managing resource assessment, planning, budgeting, and allocation processes.
  • Advocating to all constituents the community college mission, needs of all students, and student services as key to student success.
  • Promoting equity, open access, teaching, and learning.
  • Providing supervision, evaluation and staff development for assigned staff in areas of responsibility, and recommending to the College President the hiring, retention, or dismissal of Student Services personnel.
  • Serving as a member of the President's Cabinet, and assisting the college president in articulation, outreach, and community efforts.
  • Serving on college, district, and state committees as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution completed by September 15, 2024.
  2. Two years of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.
  3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
