Position Summary:

The Vice President of Public Health Policy and Strategic Engagement is a critical executive role within bioMèrieux, responsible for driving the company's policy objectives and cementing its status as a global leader in infectious disease diagnostics, market access, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) policies. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Public & Government Affairs & Chief Compliance Officer, the VP will strategically collaborate with top-tier internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute an ambitious and comprehensive public policy strategy. This high-impact role demands a subject matter expert who can represent bioMérieux at the highest levels, ensuring that the company's policy initiatives align seamlessly with its strategic business priorities and contribute to global health advancements.

This role is to be based in the Washington DC area. Candidates must reside in the surrounding, commutable area or be willing and able to relocate.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Strategy Development: Spearhead the formulation of global public policy strategies in partnership with the SVP, Public & Government Affairs & Chief Compliance Officer. Ensure these strategies are intricately aligned with bioMèrieux’s overarching business goals and drive the company’s leadership position in the industry.
  • Policy Development: Oversee the creation and upkeep of a robust portfolio of key policy topics. Lead diverse policy development teams to produce high-quality, timely policies for dissemination across all relevant networks, influencing both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Policy Monitoring: Maintain vigilant oversight of policy trends, industry dynamics, and geopolitical shifts. Proactively identify emerging policy issues, delivering strategic recommendations and action plans to the Public & Government Affairs team.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and nurture high-level relationships with key stakeholders in market access policy, including top government agencies, leading academic institutions, influential think tanks, and major industry organizations. Provide strategic advice and support to business leads to enhance market access.
  • Risk Assessment: Offer executive management critical insights into public policy risks and opportunities. Highlight the interplay between public policy, communications, and factors affecting the company’s reputation, ensuring informed decision-making at the highest levels.
  • External Representation: Act as a primary liaison with external scientific, professional, government, and patient organizations. Represent bioMèrieux on crucial policy matters, advocating for the company’s interests and strengthening its position in the industry.
  • Leadership Collaboration: Play an integral role in the Public & Government Affairs leadership team, ensuring coherent strategy and messaging across policy and advocacy initiatives.
  • Media Engagement: Collaborate with the Global Head of Communications to manage media inquiries and engage bioMérieux in high-profile speaking opportunities at key policy events. Amplify bioMèrieux's policy positions and thought leadership in public health.
  • Executive Support: Prepare bioMèrieux’s senior executives for high-stakes meetings and interactions with policymakers and media, ensuring they are well-versed in the company’s policy stances and strategic objectives.
  • Progress Tracking: Partner with the SVP, Public & Government Affairs & Chief Compliance Officer to rigorously monitor and communicate the company’s progress on policy goals, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Compliance and Integrity: Uphold the highest standards of integrity and compliance in all activities, adhering to relevant laws, regulations, and company standards of business conduct and ethics.

Education, Skills, & Experience:
  • Advanced degree (Masters or higher) in Public Policy, Life Sciences, Biological Science, Public Health, Law, or any Politics, Policy and Administrative Law
  • 10+ years of experience in public health policy, market access, and AMR policy development.
  • Strong knowledge of the infectious disease diagnostic sector and related policy issues.
  • Proven track record in stakeholder engagement, government affairs, and leadership roles in high-level, influential organizations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Global perspective and ability to navigate international policy landscapes.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical abilities.
