Position Summary:
The Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law seeks a visionary thinker, scholar, and educator with the diverse skills, background, and interests necessary to advance creative and innovative ways to solve the problem of poverty in the United States. The successful candidate will lead the Initiative to End Poverty and Inequality at Villanova University, an interdisciplinary enterprise housed in the Charles Widger School of Law. The Initiative to End Poverty and Inequality will support programmatic initiatives to generate concrete ideas and policy solutions to address the problem of poverty. The Initiative will approach the causes and effects of poverty with an interdisciplinary, evidence-based approach that prioritizes efforts that will yield concrete results and maximum advancement toward eliminating poverty.

The Fellow position is a 12-month position beginning when the position is filled, with the possibility of additional 12-month terms, not to exceed four total terms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Engage in research and writing regarding strategies to eradicate poverty.
  • Plan and organize an annual symposium aimed at identifying the most promising approaches to eradicating poverty.
  • Teach one or more courses in poverty law and policy and/or another poverty-related subject. Courses will include an experiential and/or original research component so that students develop practical experience with anti-poverty initiatives.
  • Work to generate proposals to fund interdisciplinary empirical research that will support data-driven analysis of poverty-related public policy challenges.
  • Collaborate across Villanova's six Schools and Colleges to identify solutions and recommendations that are informed by a multidisciplinary approach.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor, Master's Degree, or Ph.D. is required. Ph.D. candidates who have completed their coursework and can be resident at Villanova Law will be considered.
  • Expertise and demonstrated interest in efforts to eradicate poverty is required.
  • Outstanding scholarly potential is required.
  • Outstanding teaching ability, including a willingness and ability to utilize experiential learning, is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A strong record of research and scholarly publications is preferred.
  • Substantial practical experience and/or expertise relevant to eradicating poverty is preferred.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
