Summary: The New Mexico State University Department of Economics, Applied Statistics and International Business is seeking a candidate for a Visiting Economics Faculty position for 1-year contract at the Assistant Professor level.

Classification Summary:The New Mexico State University Department of Economics, Applied Statistics and International Business is seeking a candidate for a temporary/visiting Economics faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. New Mexico State University holds business and accounting accreditation by AACSB International. The opening is for a position beginning January 2025.

The Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business has about 25 full-time faculty members. It is one of five departments in the College of Business. The Department offers undergraduate majors in economics and international business, master's degrees in economics and applied statistics, the Doctor of Economic Development (practitioner doctorate), and PhD in Applied Statistics. Excellence in teaching is expected. Departmental faculty members participate in scholarly activities, including funded and unfunded research and directing graduate student research. The College of Business has about 60 faculty members and approximately 1,600 majors. The College is fully accredited by AACSB. The College of Business is also home to the Center for Border Economic Development (cbed.nmsu.edu), the Center for Public Utilities (cpu.nmsu.edu), and other research centers. New Mexico State University is designated as Hispanic and minority-serving, and is the land-grant and space-grant institution of the State of New Mexico. The university has approximately 14,000 students at the Las Cruces campus, 58% are Hispanic.

Classification Standard Duties:The successful applicant will have responsibilities in teaching and service to the department, college, university, and community. The regular teaching load mostly for NMSU Global Campus will be 12 credit hours (four courses) per semester (spring and fall), and 6 credit hours (2 courses) in the summer. The candidate is expected to teach upper-division Economics and/or International Business courses and advise students at the undergraduate and possibly graduate levels, and provide institutional services. The position's primary teaching responsibility is in distance/online education. Successful applicants must adhere to an exclusive contract with NMSU during employment and not engage in other employment.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Candidates who have a Ph.D. in Economics or related field(s) are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications from executives who have a doctorate in any field of business and an MBA with significant economics coursework may also be considered. Candidates must demonstrate a strong ability for quality teaching and service. Candidates must have strong organizational skills and a proven ability for collaborative work to engage with partners across the NMSU system in support of the NMSU College of Business mission. The successful candidate should have demonstrated proficiency in the use of digital tools for effective delivery of 100% online courses and have the ability to create a variety of digital learning content such as videos, podcasts, and interactive learning materials. The candidate must be proficient in Canvas and have the ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
