Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice

The College of Creative Arts and Media at West Virginia University invites nominations and applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice in the School of Theatre and Dance.



Job Description: Teaching integrated voice and speech classes on the BA/BFA undergraduate levels and within the MFA Graduate Acting Program. Emphases in contemporary American Theatre as well as classical/heightened text and story (Shakespeare, Comedy of Manners). Acting techniques and approaches in the School include Stanislavski, Meisner and Michael Chekhov.

Qualifications

Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold an MFA in Theatre and have 1-3 years of teaching experience on the college/university level combined with professional acting and/or directing experience in respected venues. An ideal candidate holds training and/or certification in a recognized voice pedagogy such as Fitzmaurice Voicework, Linklater, Rodenburg, Knight-Thompson Speechwork, etc. Affiliation with AEA or SAG-AFTRA desirable. Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a dedication to teaching, and enjoy working collaboratively and collegially in a fast-paced educational environment.

Rank and Salary: Visiting Assistant Professor, nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience.

THE SCHOOL OF THEATRE & DANCE (theatre.wvu.edu): The School of Theatre & Dance is a NAST-accredited and URTA member training program with an enrollment of approximately 200 undergraduate and graduate students. The School offers MFA degrees in acting, design & technology, and technical direction; BFA degrees in acting, musical theatre, and design & technology; a BA degree in dance and a BA in theatre studies, and minors in theatre, dance, and technical production.



As part of its mission, the School educates students in the traditions and practices of the art of theatre and dance by challenging them to engage in the many processes used and valued by collaborative artists. The School employs 17 full-time and 3 part-time faculty and 3 professional staff to annually produce a vibrant season of theatre and dance productions in four theatres supported by well-equipped production facilities. The School is dedicated to providing an exceptional classroom and studio education supported by hands-on production experiences.



THE COLLEGE OF CREATIVE ARTS AND MEDIA (ccarts.wvu.edu): is one of 13 colleges within the university, and includes the Schools of Media & Communications, Music, Theatre & Dance, and Art & Design, and offers the state's premier training in the visual and performing arts.
