Role Summary/Purpose:

Reporting to the VP, Growth Risk Leader - Product, this role will assist in the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of risk related to the development of, improvements to and ongoing running of Synchrony Products. This role will also provide compliance and operational risk expertise, including oversight and effective challenge related to the identification and mitigation of risk related to Growth processes.

Essential Responsibilities:

Operate as a Risk Athlete supporting the Product Organization in the following ways:
  • Provide strategic leadership for the 2nd line New Product Introduction (NPI) process ensuring risks are identified while creating efficiencies
  • Assist in the coordination of the Risk department to ensure proper support for Synchrony products and initiatives, as well as completion of required documentation to support the NPI process
  • Assist in the identification of risk associated with (1) new laws and regulations, including industry consent orders and regulatory guidance and (2) business initiated changes. Assist in the evaluation of the design and effectiveness of controls to mitigate identified risks and in the performance of concurrent reviews associated with significant business changes
  • Assist with risk assessments, including assessment of inherent risks and mitigating controls to support the Enterprise Risk Assessment, Compliance Risk Assessment and Process Level - Operational Risk Assessment
  • Monitor compliance and operational risk through the review of early warning reports and front line triggers (including exception monitoring and surveillance results), the use of data and analytics, KPIs and KRIs, complaint trends, issue analysis
  • Actively participate in incident/issues management discussions with the appropriate process and product leaders to ensure that process gaps are addressed and/or risk accepted
  • Execute targeted reviews
  • Assist with the review and recommend changes as necessary to policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Assist in the development of communications and training materials to educate process and product leaders, employees and 3 rd party suppliers as it relates to applicable compliance and operational risk
  • Provide support for any Supervisory Agency compliance or operational risk examinations including gathering requested information and drafting or reviewing narrative responses
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years financial services experience. In lieu of a degree, 9+ years financial services experience.
  • 5+ years of compliance or operational risk experience and a working knowledge of federal banking laws and regulations

Grade/Level: 12

The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 - 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
  • N ew hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
