Job Description
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Vice President for Orthopedic Services organizes, directs, and monitors the activities and performance of the services provided in these key specialty areas: orthopedic surgery, ortho trauma, robotics, pain management, post-acute coordination, physical therapy, orthopedic co-management, geriatric fracture and other programs. Additional responsibilities include overseeing service delivery, quality and coordination with supply chain. The Vice President for Orthopedic Services will work with the SVP of Region Operations & Service Line Development. The Vice President for Orthopedic Services will manage performance and profitability targets, ensure adequate resources are available to implement strategies/decisions, strengthen physician relationships, participate in pricing/contracting and marketing decisions, meet annual targets for financial performance, quality outcomes, patient satisfaction and team member satisfaction. Supporting the Appalachian Orthopedic Institute (AOI), identifying new service development and sports medicine coordination are also key responsibilities.
The Vice President for Orthopedic Services is responsible for facilities development, equipment evaluation; personnel performance, assignment and development; other resource allocation; and customer relations. The Vice President for Orthopedic Services is responsible for ensuring that the hospital policies and corporate policies are consistently observed, and for the development and implementation of appropriate departmental and outreach policies and procedures. The VP is accountable for compliance with all pertinent JCAHO, HFAP, VOSH, TOSHA, and Infectious Disease Standards and with local, state, and federal regulations. The VP should establish and monitor clinical quality and outcome performance in all areas of responsibility, working with appropriate medical and administrative leaders to ensure that annual goals are met. The VP is accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing realistic annual operating and capital budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters. This position is responsible for assuring staffing to comply with established productivity standards. The Vice President for Orthopedic Services will ensure that department facilities and equipment are regularly inspected and maintained in optimum operating condition. The Vice President for Orthopedic Services is accountable for maintaining harmonious interactions between departmental personnel and their customers, including patients, family members, visitors, physicians, clergy, other hospital employees and the general public. The incumbent must ensure that departmental employees know and understand the Ballad Health's Mission and Vision, and uphold its values. The Vice President for Orthopedic Services must be self-motivated and serve as a strong team leader and coach.
It is vital that an individual in this position be capable of good communication skills. It is of the utmost importance that written communication is legible.
Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The VP will hold a Bachelors degree and a Master's degree in an appropriate business/management discipline. 7 years progressive leadership experience in a supervisory role is required. The VP will be required to update technical expertise and to develop management/leadership skills through continuing education throughout tenure in this position. The VP will possess experience working in a complex multi-service-line matrix structured organization; experience in a competitive healthcare environment; strong communication skills with the ability to motivate others; be a visionary leader and consensus builder who can manage change; possess excellent negotiation skills; be experienced in the process of creating operational excellence in organizations, an advocate for positive cultural change; possess extremely well developed relationship building and facilitation skills and strong team building and team development skills; experience working across lines of authority and demonstrated success with breaking down traditional silos; demonstrates ability to develop collaborative teams and integrated services programs; and quality improvement skills.
