General Description

The Warehouse Associate/Delivery Truck Driver plays a key role in distributing food and supplies to school cafeterias. This position is responsible for loading/unloading shipments, organizing shipments, verifying shipment accuracy, and delivering and unloading food items and supplies to schools. The role requires coordination with team members and adherence to safety guidelines, with limited supervision.
Essential Job Functions

  • Works in the warehouse to receive shipments from vendors, organize food and supplies in the dry storage or refrigerator/freezer units. Verify receipt of all delivered goods against freight documents. Identify any damaged goods and address immediately.
  • Pull orders and load the delivery truck with the schools' orders.
  • Operates truck for the delivery of food and supplies to school cafeterias, adhering to all traffic and safety regulations. Unloads the orders to the storage room at each school location.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of both the warehouse and assigned truck, conducting end-of-day inspections to ensure the area meets hygiene and order standards.
  • Assists in inventory control by ensuring inventory is maintained and rotated; focusing on the use of perishable products before the expiration date to minimize waste.
  • Attends and participates in department meetings, contributing to discussions and improvements in logistics and delivery processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Occasional independent day-to-day decision-making and problem-solving as it relates to warehouse duties and making deliveries. This position will seek the Warehouse Supervisor's guidance for situations outside of routine procedures.

Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, reach overhead. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee must have sufficient vision to safely operate motor vehicles and other material handling equipment.
Work Environment:
Work is performed both in the Warehouse and throughout Chesterfield County (while performing deliveries). The position may be exposed to dust, airborne particles, and packaged toxic or caustic chemicals. The position may also be exposed to extreme temperatures, including walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and inclement weather conditions for an extended period of time. The noise level is loud to moderate.

Qualifications

Knowledge of general warehouse duties; Ability to maintain inventory; Ability to perform physical labor; knowledge of and ability to carry out oral and written instructions; drive a delivery truck and use warehouse equipment including a forklift; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population. Knowledge of modern warehouse procedures, including methods of proper and orderly storage and issuance of materials; basic stock inventory procedures; requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, packing slips, bills of lading, freight tags, and the use and meaning of each; computerized warehouse record keeping systems. Ability to drive a delivery truck and unload orders to schools within Chesterfield County.
Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job. Valid VA Driver's License. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
