Job Summary: Supervises a stand alone warehouse backup storage area or a specific operational area of a Distribution Center receiving storage and shipping involving a large group of employees with a representative grade of NA-5.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates in assigned area. Establishes deadlines and priorities on the basis of work schedules methods procedures and policies established by higher levels of supervision.
  • Participates with superior in determining how many assignments in area supervised can be done concurrently how many may be delayed the number of types of employees needed and availability of equipment required. Ensures the economical utilization and maintenance of the Motor Pool. Assures proper adherence to established delivery schedules. Organizes shipping of merchandise within the region. Based on volume of merchandise determines type and size of equipment required. Is responsible for the control and issuance of truck seals and logs.
  • Selects workers and assigns tasks to be performed. Explains work requirements methods and procedures instructs subordinates in new procedures and provides advice when problems arise. Reviews work in progress or on completion. Adjusts work plans assignments and methods as necessary to accomplish the work as effectively and economically as possible. Assures merchandise is properly received inspected delivered to required locations incoming deliveries are properly coordinated to ensure their timeliness and items required for delivery or for transfer to other locations are properly loaded. Coordinates with appropriate organizational entitles as required in connection with work assignments.
  • Maintains a number of records and logs of daily dispatches trip numbers drivers assigned vehicle destination type of shipment containers pallets and tote boxes etc. Prepares required reports.
  • Dispatches vehicles to appropriate locations with proper merchandise provides vehicle drivers with necessary documents route and destination information as well as with any special instructions required. Responsible for ensuring trailers are sealed. Maintains contact with all locations concerning vehicle dispatches and answers questions regarding loads and or accompanying paperwork.
  • Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance and repair programs for vehicles. Determines maintenance and repair priorities establishes maintenance schedules reviews and evaluates work-in process and completed work to assure compliance with established standards. Reviews and analyzes major component repairs provides guidance as required. Ensures that daily inspections of fleet equipment is performed by operators along with complying with all federal state and DOD regulations.
  • Schedules and approves leave of subordinates prepares work performance appraisals. Counsels employees on problems adjusts informal complaints through discussion with employees and union representative. Takes informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems. Initiates proposals for disciplinary action where needed. Promotes the participation of subordinates in programs such as suggestions program cost reduction program etc. Maintains production reports and records. Reviews job descriptions for currency and accuracy reports detailing of employees of jobs other than their own participates in review and improvement of work methods organization features carries out EEO policies and communicates support of these policies to subordinates. Assures equality in determining qualifications selections assignments training promotions detailing discipline and awards to employees. Coordinates and participates fully in the development of an EEO Affirmative Action Plan and efforts regarding staffing motivation and training to develop all employees.
  • Assists supervisor in carrying out functions involving warehouse operations. Oversees and assists other warehouse locations. Maintains continuity of operations in the absence of designated supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


TRAINING REQUIREMENT:

Associate must receive Hazardous Material HazMat training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

One year of experience performing warehousing related duties such as receiving storing issuing shipping operation of manual material movement equipment etc. or similar work that provided the knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the position.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:

One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

One year of warehousing experience including work that demonstrated the ability to prepare material receiving and transfer documentation provide direction to lower graded warehouse workers and ability to operate a fork lift.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing stooping bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Is required to lift up to 100 lbs with assistance and carry short distances heavier material will be transported by fork-lift equipment.
