GEI's Woburn and Franklin, Massachusetts offices continue to grow and are seeking a highly motivated Watershed/Lake Water Quality Senior Scientist/Project Manager to join our team. The role will involve a mix of project management and technical expertise to deliver projects and grow GEI's watershed and receiving water quality practice. The candidate will mentor junior staff across New England to support field efforts, and lead project teams in the field for implementation of aquatic ecosystem assessment studies.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage projects including development and implementation of lake management plans, watershed planning, natural resource field investigations including aquatic plant surveys, water quality investigations, stormwater planning, benthic and fisheries surveys, sediment sampling and other watershed or limnological investigations for a wide range of potential clients.
  • Coordinate and lead field teams in aquatic ecosystem and water quality assessments.
  • Prepare summary memos, technical reports, figures, and recommendations to clients.
  • Deliver technical presentations to clients and other stakeholders.
  • Develop project proposals involving aquatic ecosystem assessment and management planning.
  • Help develop business by leveraging relationships and knowledge of clients, programs, and regulations.
  • Assist in recruiting, mentoring, and training staff.
Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience involving project management in one or multiple of the subject areas listed above.
  • M.S. in Watershed Management, Ecology, Lake Management, Natural Resources, Aquatic Sciences or related discipline.
  • Experience Identifying common native and invasive aquatic and terrestrial plant species.
  • Watershed and lake monitoring, water quality modeling, fisheries, experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Clean Water Act, water quality criteria for lakes/reservoirs, flowing waters, and estuaries at national and state level.
  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills, collaboration, and communication skills. Strong organization skills with attention to detail. Team player, self-starter, and confident personality.
Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD. in related field or professional certification such as Certified Lake Manager (CLM), profession hydrologist (PH) or Qualified Stormwater experience.
  • Experience leading marketing or proposal development for one or multiple of the subject areas listed above.
  • Statistical data analysis, R and R studio, ArcGIS, and cloud computing. Knowledge of new sensors or remote sensing technologies in the field of water quality monitoring.
  • Experience with environmental permitting.
  • NASBLA or equivalent boating license.
  • Water resources experience and watercraft handling.
  • Experience driving and trailering small to medium size vessels.
