Pay

This position is a nonexempt position at pay grade 110.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

Under the supervision of the Parks Supervisor, the Welder assesses, repairs, and fabricates metal structures, tools, and equipment. The Welder reads blueprints and drawings and takes or reads measurements to plan layout and procedures; determines the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements; sets up components for welding according to specifications; welds components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planned projects and manage their implementation for the Parks and Recreation Department.

• The ability to time- manage, meet deadlines, and prioritize projects on their importance. Required to organize projects, record work progress and document when projects are completed.

• Performs all welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.

• Repairs broken or cracked parts. and fills holes on assigned projects.

• Examines welding for bead size and other specifications.

• Selects torch, torch tip, filler ford and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness.

• Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter, cleans or de-greases parts.

• Performs all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.

• The ability to cut with precision.

• The knowledge to disposition to constantly inspect all materials.

• The ability to respect safety guidelines and procedures.

• The habit of maintaining clean workspaces.

• The ability to precisely follow directions.

• The knowledge to ability required to detect changes in molten metal flows.

• Ability to create memos, email, and Maximo work orders for department.

• Document work and include any alterations or difficulties experienced while welding.

• Order or maintain inventory without overstocking.

• Tasks will include litter and debris clean up, painting, planting, pruning, graffiti removal, public restroom maintenance, and special event set up.

• Operation of outdoor power equipment and power tools.

• Assist with irrigation repairs, maintenance of water features and maintenance of playground equipment.

• Requires operation of pickup trucks with trailers, motor vehicles and utility vehicles.

• Must complete daily work reports verifying time, equipment, and material use.

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma/GED

• Minimum of two (2) of experience

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
