Smith Gardens, the largest annual and perennial grower in the Pacific Northwest, has an exciting opportunity for a Regional Merchandising Manager to join our Home Office team.

JOB FUNCTION:

The Regional Merchandising Manager (RMM) manages all live goods merchandising in Home Depot and Walmart garden centers in the region. The RMM manages and supports a team of Merchandising Supervisors with all aspects of recruiting,on-boarding, training, safety, and merchandising execution. The position is responsible for communicating the customers' and SGI's merchandising directions to the field teams to optimize the consumer's shopping experience, as well as maximizing scans and sell-through. The RMM is also responsible for managing the merchandising of third-party vendor products in the region.

DIRECT REPORTS: Merchandising Supervisors

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Hires, trains, and manages all Merchandising Supervisors and supports in the hiring and training of Lead Merchandisers
  • Fosters a results-oriented mindset employing "Inspect what you Expect" principles
  • Should visit with each Merchandising Supervisor weekly and all stores twice monthly considering time of year and as priorities allow
  • Builds and manages annual Merchandising budget for the region by store and week
  • Builds relationships with the customers' Store and District Managers
  • Remains in close communication with SGI's Home Depot and Walmart Account Managers for customer direction and communicates any issues of concern with stores and districts
  • Communicates merchandising guidelines and expectations to stores and Smith Gardens personnel with a focus on quality in execution
  • Ensures that Merchandising Supervisors are accountable for comps, sell-thru, discounting metrics, and proper utilization of the Field Service App
  • Manages and directs execution of Monthly POGs, Ads, Signage/POP, Discount Program, etc.
  • Communicates new and upcoming programs with Merchandising Supervisors
  • Provides timely information to replenishment team to optimize inventories, sales and sell-through
  • Promotes a safety culture by exemplifying safe work practices and training
  • Directs and ensures VIP walk readiness

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Takes initiative and pays attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-10 years of experience in team management, preferably in a regional or district role
  • 5-10 years merchandising experience in retail and/or business-to-business sales
  • Minimum 5 years experience in horticulture roles
  • Associate's degree. Bachelor's degree a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires extensive travel in the region
  • Work long hours as needed during busy season, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather, rain, wind, heat, cold, direct sun, etc.
  • Pushing/pulling fully loaded rolling delivery racks of product (approx. weight 300-500 lbs.) on occasion

PAY RANGE: $85,000 - $95,000 per year
