Position Summary:

Washington Gas is seeking two Plant Maintenance Technicians for our Ravensworth, VA team! Under the general direction of higher-graded employees or supervisors, the Maintenance Technician assists with the maintenance and operation of equipment at peak shaving plants, gas conditioning facilities, gate stations, and pressure regulating equipment (GSO facilities). The role involves operating, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and installing equipment of varying complexity. The Plant Maintenance Technician is also required to safely operate company vehicles, forklifts, loaders, and loader attachments.

What You'll Do:
  • Operations and Maintenance Tasks:
  • Assist in the maintenance and safe operation of plant machinery and equipment, including but not limited to:
  • High and low-pressure gas compressors and related equipment.
  • Process air compressors and associated systems.
  • High and low-pressure steam and natural gas systems.
  • Hexane injection systems.
  • Natural gas and/or liquid propane storage systems.
  • Propane systems, including product quality testing and associated equipment.
  • Various other plant equipment, including process heaters, hydraulic pumps, pressure regulators, and fire protection systems.
  • Troubleshoot machinery and equipment during both operating and non-operating periods.
  • Perform work in confined spaces, including internal boiler inspections.
  • Operate and maintain valves and assist in operating non-plant GSO facilities such as gate and regulator stations.
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and maps.
  • Equipment Repair and Maintenance Tasks:
  • Repair equipment by replacing rings, pistons, bearings, and other components.
  • Maintain records of work performed and parts replaced on plant machinery and equipment.
  • Prepare lists and stock replacement parts and materials for maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance at other GSO facilities, including gate stations.
  • Conduct regular tests of fire equipment, including hoses, fire hydrants, monitors, and pumps.
  • Ensure all tools at the assigned facility are in good working condition and meet industry standards.
  • General Duties:
  • Perform building and facility maintenance tasks such as glazing, painting, plumbing, pipe fitting, concrete work, fence repairs, snow removal, grass cutting, etc.
  • Maintain control and safety systems on machinery, boilers, and other plant equipment.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair various power-operated equipment.
  • Accurately complete daily electronic work orders and weekly electronic timesheets.
  • Enter information into various computer applications.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in related business support and administrative activities, such as backend meter processing, corrosion processing, leak/damage prevention, peer safety observations, vehicle clean-out, and cross-functional training.
  • Be available for shift work and on-call emergency response as required.
What You Bring:
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required; formal technical training is preferred.
  • Minimum of 18 months of related technical experience (e.g., heavy equipment, manufacturing equipment, pumps, compressors, automotive or marine mechanics, small engine repair, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
  • A Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record is required. CDL holders are subject to testing under federal highway regulations.
  • Technical certifications (e.g., journeyman or master plumber, HVAC certification, ASE) are an asset.
  • Must acquire a Maryland 4th Grade Stationary Engineering License within 18 months of hire.
  • Must pass the ACT WorkKeys test before an interview.
  • Must pass the Plant Grade 5 Plant Operator I qualification test within 24 months.
  • New hires must complete all training and WGL Operator Qualifications.
  • Intermediate computer skills are required, including data entry, file management, spreadsheets, document creation, and professional email communication.
